Food waste in Canada is prevalent at an exponentially large scale. $31 Billion dollars in food is wasted annually, with about 47% of that waste coming from households. We at Road To Zero Waste are deeply disturbed by these findings.
How is this affecting us? Well, directly, you are not getting what you pay with the food you throw away, but additionally the impact on the environment. About 20% of Canada’s methane emissions are produced in landfills.
Road To Zero Waste is in pursuit of raising awareness on how to reduce food waste and to find practical solutions to everyday situations when considering food.
We are implementing two ways addressing food waste issues in Canada:
- We are launching community fridges in the GTA, the first of which was launched March 18th, 2018 at 229 Rexdale Boulevard, Etobicoke.
- We will be reaching out to communities in order to educate how we can use food that we would otherwise not think twice about throwing away.
